About the Role

This role will include supporting post-doctoral research assistants, research fellows and PhD students in the laboratory with their experimental work. The postholder will have the opportunity to undertake their own experiments and analysis generating data contributing to projects within the lab. Work will also involve other technical responsibilities and the ability to liaise with Barts Health NHS Trust clinicians and clinical trials teams on occasions for collection samples from hospitals, interacting with partners and handling and processing samples. Provide all the required technical support to enable the laboratory to function effectively, while adhering to correct procedures and health and safety guidelines.

About You

The candidate would hold a primary degree qualification in a Biomedical Research discipline (e.g., Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology) and would require demonstrable laboratory experience. Ideally knowledge of immunology and or virology/molecular biology would be beneficial, with demonstrable experience in techniques to include cell culture, flow cytometry, ELISA and PCR. We expect analytical and problem-solving capability and for you to be a good record keeper having the necessary manual dexterity for bench work. A well-developed understanding of Health & Safety regulation & procedures is expected. Furthermore, database managements and skills necessary for overseeing laboratory organization are key. This is in conjunction with good time management and task prioritization. Good communication skills (written and spoken) and adequately convey results and technical issues are also needed. A can do attitude and disposition towards experimental work with willingness to work flexible hours as projects demand with an enthusiasm for laboratory research is expected.

About the School/Department/Institute/Project

The Blizard Institute was established in 2003 and is one of six Institutes within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, QMUL. The Institute comprises approximately 350 staff based in four academic Centres and one Public Engagement Centre, and supports a combined total of c750 postgraduate research and taught students. The Institute aims to deliver excellence in all aspects of research, teaching and clinical service.
