About us

The Cancer Research UK & UCL Cancer Trials Centre (CTC) is a UKCRC registered and NCRI Clinical Trials Unit group member: https://www.ctc.ucl.ac.uk/ It is one of the largest cancer trials centres in the UK, with more than 115 members of staff managing >80 research studies.

The CTC conducts clinical studies in oncology, both nationally and internationally, with a cross-disciplinary approach to evaluate anti-cancer treatments, and investigate methods of diagnosis and early detection.

About the role

We are looking to appoint 2 Senior Project Managers (SPM) on a fixed term basis to undertake specific maternity cover, the duration of which is dependent upon completion of the cover, return of the post holder or cessation of the funding, whichever is sooner. We expect the duration of the posts to be for 12 months in the first instance. The expected start date for the posts would be between May - July 2024.

The SPM will be responsible for managing a portfolio of trials and has line management responsibility for Trial Managers (TM) and Data Managers (DM) within their team. The SPM works closely with the Senior Management Team to develop new trials, deal with issues in ongoing trials, prioritise and manage the workload of the team, and to continuously assess the working practices of the team to inform changes to improve communication, efficiency and quality.

This is a high-level post, and candidates must already have acquired considerable experience in conducting and managing several clinical interventional trials.

The majority of studies at the CTC involve evaluating investigational medicinal products, therefore the post-holder would need to have had sufficient knowledge and experience in these particular studies.

The CTC offers hybrid working with staff being able to work flexibly between our office and home, along with core hours and flexible start/finish times. Due to the senior level of this post, it is expected that the postholder would work onsite for a minimum of 60% of their time (3 days per week).

About you

The post holder should have considerable experience of conducting clinical trials, including developing a project plan, developing or amending protocols, case report forms and other trial-related documents, site set-up, monitoring trial progress, and how databases are prepared for analysis and trial close down. The post holder should also have experience of conducting CTIMPs and of handling/understanding agreements and contracts.
