This is a brand-new and exciting role within PNDC that will research, develop, test and demonstrate Digital Grid technologies as part of the PNDC R&D Team, in its unique, world-class industry-scale facility.

Term: Fixed (24 months)

Location: PNDC, Cumbernauld 

The successful candidate will work as part of a growing dynamic R&D team on a wide range of technical projects with particular emphasis on experimental validation and testing.  Opportunities for innovation are extensive, through the strong working relationship and routes to market afforded by the PNDC industry members, and commercial engagements. This will be supplemented with collaborative opportunities with other research and industry teams in the UK and abroad.

To be considered for the role, you will:

  • Possess the knowledge, skills and experience normally associated with a PhD in a relevant field or you will be educated to Honours Degree level with significant, relevant industrial experience. Have experience of the delivery of research and development projects in collaboration with industry or within an industrial context.
  • Have hands on experience in designing and setting up IT and OT networks and virtualized platforms for the validation of new and emerging Digital Grid architectures providing secure and resilient electricity supply.
  • Be able to apply this knowledge in a highly practical environment, have experience of leading the delivery of research and development projects in collaboration with industry or in an industrial context.
  • Have good technical writing ability and strong communication skills.
  • Be able to lead and contribute to high value industrial funding proposals, and manage funding awarded.
  • Be a self-starter, and able to plan and conduct individual research and knowledge exchange activities in a structured fashion, as well as generate new ideas and concepts, and the capacity to work in a dynamically changing team environment.  

Whilst a Senior R&D Engineer is ideally sought for this position, applications from candidates with less experience, are also welcome. In those circumstances, appointment will be made at grade 7 level (R&D Engineer: £36,024 - £44,263) and duties and grade will be revised accordingly.
