Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Early Music within UCD School of Music.

The UCD School of Music seeks to appoint a Lecturer / Assistant Professor in Early Music. We take “early music” to cover broadly music before c. 1600 but will also consider strong applications with research and teaching specialisms reaching into the seventeenth century. We are open to all specialisms within this broad remit, including all historical periods, geographical areas, and methodological and historiographical approaches (including interdisciplinary approaches). We also welcome applications from scholars who may have additional areas of expertise.

The successful candidate will lead the School’s research and teaching in early music and will make a significant contribution to the broader development of the discipline of historical musicology at UCD. They will have an excellent track record of research, teaching, and service/leadership, commensurate with career stage, and clear research plans for the coming five years; these should include key intended publications and may also include proposals for large-scale funding applications. Once in post, they will be supported to develop their research and teaching in ways that benefit their own scholarly trajectory.

The UCD School of Music is a vibrant centre for teaching and research that has played a leading role in Irish musical life for over a century. The School has undergone significant growth in recent decades and UCD is now ranked one of the top 100 Performing Arts institutions in the world (QS World University Rankings 2024).
