We are looking for a passionate scientist with a technical background (in engineering, computer science or physics) and an interest in biological applications, to work on the EPSRC-sponsored project Mechanomeds. The project will exploit mechanobiology, a field of research that has progressed in the last 10 years, as a novel method to interrogate very early changes in cellular state, bringing it closer to medical use by combining advanced biomaterials, novel microscopy techniques and robotics.
You will lead on the development of the control algorithms and electronics to optimise the acquisition and analysis of biological samples (3D in-vitro models). You will be based in the @LERT (@Liverpool Robotics Engineering Technologies) lab, a state-of-the-art facility for the design, prototyping, manufacturing, and testing of automation and robotics platforms. The activity is in collaboration with University of Glasgow (biological models) and the University of Strathclyde (mechanobiology actuation).
The post is available from 1 September 2024 until 31 August 2026.
Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 31 from the date of their award.
The University has the right to close the vacancy early if it is deemed that there have been enough applications received.
