The School of Electronic Engineering is a research-intensive school that also presents undergraduate programmes in Electronic & Computer Engineering, in Mechatronic Engineering (jointly with the School of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering) and in Global Challenges (jointly with the School of Law & Government), and very successful taught-postgraduate programmes (MEng and MSc) in the Electronic Engineering discipline.

Role Overview

The role will encompass activities across the three primary University domains of Teaching and Learning, Research and Scholarship, and Contribution to the School, Faculty, University and Profession, with a particular focus on Electronic and Computer Engineering subjects and topics. Candidates with a track record of research in the following areas are of particular interest:

  • Fundamental design and development of Machine Learning technologies, including deep learning, foundation models and explainable AI;
  • Data Sciences, Data Analytics, Data Engineering and Machine Learning in Engineering Applications;
  • Neural hardware architectures (e.g. NPUs, or Edge) and hardware-aware ML system design.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Applicants must hold an honours degree in a relevant discipline and should be qualified to a postgraduate level with a PhD specialism in Electronic and Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • The successful candidate should ideally have a minimum of three years relevant post-doctoral experience.
  • Applicants must have demonstrated teaching experience at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, ideally including experience in innovative pedagogies and/or assessments, international and/or online or technology-assisted teaching.
  • Applications are specifically invited from those with strong research credentials in one or more of the areas listed above.
  • The successful candidate will also have demonstrated potential to establish an independent research programme and to attract research funding from competitive research funding schemes and/or industry.
  • Candidates should demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills consistent with the highest quality of teaching and learning, together with evidence of successful teamwork and a collegial approach

Assistant Professor Salary Scale: €60,847 - €97,512

Appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
