As our student numbers increase and we continue to diversify our programmes and portfolio, we are looking for a high-calibre person to join our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Department as a Widening Participation Assistant.

This is a fantastic opportunity to enter a well-established and respected department. As the Widening Participation Assistant, you will be supporting the University’s widening participation projects and initiatives, including, but not exclusively, the Diversity and Inclusion Advocate Scheme and the Employability Service’s widening participation projects.
The University’s widening participation work aims to improve the outcomes and experiences of our undergraduate widening participation students.

We are looking for a professional with skills and experience in:

  • Administration.
  • Customer service and liaising confidently with people.
  • Time management and prioritisation, with the ability to work with limited supervision.

As our Widening Participation Assistant, you will:

  • Liaise and work closely with colleagues in the Widening Participation and Employability teams, as well as students, colleagues in other departments, and external stakeholders, to ensure the smooth running of projects and timely communication. This includes managing email accounts and taking the lead in responding to queries.
  • Attend meetings: assisting in the running of meetings such as managing waiting rooms, messages, and noting attendance; and to take and share minutes for relevant committee and working group meetings in a timely manner.
  • Support the Diversity and Inclusion Advocate Scheme, including aiding in the recruitment and onboarding of new student advocates, ensuring that their work is delivered on time, collating different ideas from them, and aiding the Widening Participation team in project implementation.
  • Support students taking part in approved employability focused widening participation projects, assisting in the completion of project paperwork, and to provide a contact point for questions or concerns students may have.
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date records relevant to all projects supported, and collate data and evidence as required to enable evaluation of projects to ensure they meet their objectives.

We are looking for people who are/have:

  • The ability to understand, apply and communicate policies and procedures.
  • Commitment to a high standard of customer service, with excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, and manage small scale projects with limited supervision.
  • Good planning and organisational skills, and the ability to prioritise competing demands.
  • Excellent IT skills: ability to work with standard software packages (MS Office, especially Word and Excel).
