Technische Universität Nürnberg – The Lab for Digital Learning Experience & Active Design (Digital LEAD Lab)

We are innovating university! Interdisciplinary, international, and digital – these are pillars of the University of Technology Nuremberg. We interlink engineering, humanities, and sciences. The University focuses on interdisciplinary studies, digital learning, and cutting-edge research. We will enroll up to 6,000 students on a campus that combines research, learning, and living. The project is one of the most important higher education projects of the Free State of Bavaria, Germany.  

The UTN School of Students and Young Researchers (StaRs) is looking for the following full-time position as soon as possible

Instructional Designer (M/F/D)

The Lab for Digital Learning Experience & Active Design (Digital LEAD Lab) is integrated in StaRs and supports faculty to establish active learning in their courses. It also addresses the rapidly evolving role of technology in teaching and learning. Digital LEAD Lab aims to improve learning designs regarding the effectiveness, efficiency and appeal of learning processes and is a one-stop shop for co-designing and co-implementing the newest forms of teaching and learning.

Your responsibilities:

  • Support faculty in the design of learning experiences (course design, assignments, and assessment), using active learning approaches with digital technologies such as "Collaborative Learning Cultures" for innovative teaching and learning processes
  • Develop and support courses in a learning management system (Canvas) as well as develop training materials for teachers and interactive content for students
  • Design and provide training and workshops for faculty
  • Assist in the development and implementation of quality management processes
  • Continuously develop your knowledge of the latest research in the field of teaching and learning (e.g., instructional and learning experience design, learning technology) and high impact practices as well as the latest trends in the field of educational technologies

Your profile:

  • Degree at Master’s level (or comparable), if possible with a reference to Instructional Design, Educational Technology or a comparable qualification
  • Expertise in the field of digital teaching/learning from a sociotechnical-pedagogical perspective
  • Very good written and spoken knowledge of the German and English (at least language level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
  • Professional experience of at least one year is of advantage
  • Knowledge of research studies, theories, approaches and practices of designing teaching and learning as well as experience in using appropriate educational technologies are desirable
  • Ideally experience in designing courses that effectively use various technologies and practices in the digital realm as well as experience in analyzing feedback from formative and summative evaluation of courses (usability, UX/LX design) and developing strategies for faculty to improve student learning
  • Study abroad or prior experience in an intercultural setting is desirable
