Research Assistant for the Development of GeoBlocks (Fixed-term)

The School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment has an impressive research portfolio, strong partnerships with industry leaders and first-rate facilities. In addition to our home programmes, we currently validate and manage a number of programmes with international partners based in Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Qatar and Singapore. Working with these partners has enabled us to internationalise our home programmes and we run a number of visits to these countries each year.

We are now looking for a Research Assistant to work on its UKRI funded project for the development of novel geopolymer concrete (GeoBlocks) breakwater.

You will have a master’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related field), with research experience in Civil Engineering materials, cement and concrete design, and low carbon construction materials.

Ideally you would also be able to demonstrate experience in analytical analysis of construction materials, experimental works in water engineering, and environmental/water quality analysis.

You will be asked to work within specified research grants and/or projects, undertake research, conduct, and record the outcome of laboratory specimen preparation and testing, test specimens prepared in the client’s plant and fieldwork, and conduct literature reviews and evidence synthesis. You will also make presentations at conferences, or exhibit work in other appropriate events, and write up research work for publication.
