JOB ROLE:  Postdoctoral Research Assistant (PDRA)

JOB HOLDER:  Tba

JOB PURPOSE: Conduct research both independently and as part of a research team lead by the Research Fellow. Supporting experimental design, data collection, and analysis in small RNA/microRNA (miRNAs) biology and evolutionary molecular biology.

Employing a combination of molecular and bioinformatic techniques to explore the role of miRNAs in sponges and unicellular relatives of animals. Present at national and international conferences, gain experience in preparing manuscripts, and develop skills in grant writing.

 ACCOUNTABILITY: 

Essential experience/skills/qualifications:

• PhD or similar experience in RNA Biology, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
• Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, including cloning, RNA extraction, western blot, and immunoprecipitation.
• Experience in bioinformatics analysis of high throughput data such as RNA-seq.
• Experience in writing research publications.
• Experience working in a laboratory setting and carry out tasks in compliance with Health and Safety and other relevant Regulations in line with MBA Policies.
• Demonstrable ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication skills both oral and written and ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative research environment.

Desirable experience/skills/qualifications:

• Experience in small RNA research.
• Experience small RNAseq library preparation and miRNA data analysis.
• Knowledge of non-bilaterians and animal evolution.
• Knowledge of studying molecular interactions, such as protein-protein and protein-RNA interactions.

Key responsibilities and skills

• Conduct research both independently and as part of a research team lead by the Research Fellow.
• Assist with preparing manuscripts for submission to scientific journals.
• Assist in training and mentoring lab personnel, including graduate and undergraduate students.
• Manage day-to-day operations of the research project per directives of PI.
• Participation in laboratory meetings and journal clubs.
• Carry out tasks in compliance with Health and Safety and other relevant Regulations in line with MBA Policies.
• Undertake relevant in-house and external training (both mandatory) to enhance professional development.
• Data management in line with MBA Data Policies.
• Undertake any other tasks identified as being within the job holders’ capabilities.
