This is a fixed term appointment for 5 years.

This role is available at 0.6fte, on an annualised hours basis, with a concentration of hours in, and immediately prior to, LSE’s term time (approximately 31 weeks per year) with a significantly and proportionally reduced number of hours per week outside of those weeks.

There is some scope to tailor the precise hours per week to suit the successful candidate and this arrangement can be discussed further at interview. The above salary should be pro-rated to 0.6fte.

The LSE Law School is a world-renowned law faculty and vibrant intellectual community of staff and students. LSE Legal Advice Clinic launched in January 2025, offering training opportunities to students and free legal advice in employment and family law to members of the public.

We are now seeking to appoint a Deputy Director for the Legal Advice Clinic to help drive its further growth and expansion of the areas of law in which it operates. The post-holder will support the Legal Advice Clinic Director with the smooth and efficient operations of the Clinic, supervising students in letter-writing, providing legal advice in the shadowing clinic, and helping with the recruitment and of partner lawyers and student volunteers, and co-ordinating and finding clients. The post-holder will play a key role in the development and growth of the Clinic, managing external relationships and, over time, contributing to the development and delivery of a clinical taught course for students. The post-holder will also maintain their professional knowledge and accreditation in the relevant fields of law.

Candidates must be qualified as a solicitor/barrister in England & Wales with entitlement to a current practising certificate and must have an undergraduate Law degree or relevant equivalent conversion. Candidates must have significant expertise and practice experience in one or more of the following areas of law: employment law, family law, housing law, company/commercial law, immigration law, education law, or welfare benefits law. It is desirable that candidates have experience of legal practice in other areas of the law outside the above list. Experience of fundraising, university legal clinics or pro-bono legal services, is also desirable.

In addition, candidates must excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience working in a team and on their own initiative; the ability to identify opportunities for the strategic development of the Clinic; and experience of dealing with a wide range of people in an appropriate, sensitive and tactful manner.
