The University of Roehampton is recruiting to the role of Technician to join the team supporting a brand new Sustainable Engineering and Technology Education Centre (SETEC). The Centre will provide industry-leading facilities for students and provide a comprehensive green skills education, delivering high-quality and industry-engaged programmes in engineering, architecture and built environment courses, including higher technical, apprenticeship and degree education.
This role is ideal for someone from an engineering or construction background, an enthusiastic and proactive technician who is self-motivated, ready to work with a team and who enjoys providing excellent service delivery in a challenging environment.
Key responsibilities will include working with the team to oversee the daily operations of the technical facilities which include an engineering and fabrication workshop, an environmental lab and digital / CAD labs. The successful candidate will have strong technical skills and a good understanding of environmental / digital principles and laboratory testing equipment.
The role holder will support teaching sessions in labs and classes, including demonstrating methods and techniques to students and ensuring all equipment and instruments are functioning and are maintained and calibrated correctly. The setting up of practical experiments for teaching sessions, supporting practical classes and assisting with student projects are all key aspects of the role. A practical understanding and experience of the Health and Safety at Work Act and other related industry regulations and their application in an educational environment is essential.
