Lecturer in Law and Legal Practice

Bloomsbury Institute

Closing date: 17.00 hours on Friday 16th May 2025

Bloomsbury Institute is a higher education provider, regulated by the Office for Students, and we deliver undergraduate degrees in Accounting, Business, and Law. This includes 3-year standard and 2-year accelerated degrees.

We pride ourselves on providing students with access to a transformative higher education experience.  We recruit students that have the potential, attitude and aspiration to succeed. This is key to us fulfilling our broader vision of offering students from all backgrounds the opportunity to define and pursue success through education.

All our degrees are validated by Wrexham University. We have redesigned all our degrees to have a more practice-based focus, full details of which are available at: www.bil.ac.uk/courses/

We seek to appoint a full-time Lecturer to begin working with us and welcome applications from experienced teaching academics with a track record of teaching on LLB, LPC and/or CILEx courses. An active research profile or doctorate is desirable, as is a HEA fellowship or similar.

About our Law Degree

Our LLB (Hons) Law and Legal Practice, launched in October 2022, has been designed to align with recent changes to the qualification pathways to become a lawyer.

On the programme, academic knowledge is brought to life, and students are encouraged to apply what they learn in practical, real-world contexts. This approach ensures a practice-based and vocationally focused learning experience that prepares students for the realities of legal practice.

CILEx Regulation Ltd (CRL) sets the standards for knowledge, skills, and competence required for qualification as a Chartered Legal Executive. Bloomsbury Institute is approved by CRL as a training provider. Our LLB is mapped against CRL’s knowledge requirements for several pathways (or practice areas), including Dispute Resolution (Civil Litigation), Criminal Litigation, Probate, Conveyancing, Immigration, and Business. As a result, graduates who successfully complete the degree and demonstrate they have met CRL’s competence requirements, through a minimum of 2,300 hours of qualifying experience, can apply for authorisation as a Chartered Legal Executive without any additional study or examinations (except where advocacy rights are sought). Bloomsbury Institute is currently the only higher education provider to have this CRL accreditation.

In addition, our LLB (Hons) Law and Legal Practice meets the academic requirements of both the Bar Standards Board and the Solicitors Regulation Authority, providing graduates with maximum flexibility in pursuing a career as a solicitor, barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive.

Bloomsbury Institute also operates a law clinic, which was formally opened by Lord Neuberger in January 2022. The clinic now collaborates with Hodge Jones & Allen and students advise members of the general public on Personal Injury matters.
