An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Scientific Support Technician (SST) to join the CIMR Laboratory Management Team. Part of a wider Research Support Team, the role works closely with another Scientific Support Technician and two Laboratory Support Technicians. This role is ideal for someone looking to develop their career in Laboratory Management.
As the Senior Support Technician, you will provide support and assistance for the communal laboratory facilities. These facilities include Tissue Culture labs, Containment Level 2/Blood Handling labs, Radioactive Tissue Culture, Core Equipment rooms (including centrifuges, spectrometers, orbital incubators, PCR machines, gel documentation systems, etc.), cold rooms, and dark rooms.
Key Responsibilities:
For Grade 6 appointments, the successful applicant will be qualified to HNC level in Biological Sciences or equivalent and have substantial experience in a research laboratory environment as well as experience with a wide range of laboratory equipment and purchasing consumables. The understanding and experience of laboratory safety guidelines, with significant knowledge of Biological and GM Safety is highly desirable, with the successful candidate expected to be appointed as Biological Safety Officer for CIMR.
CIMR actively seeks to develop & train staff for their future and has had significant success in meeting this aim. Less experienced applicants with similar qualifications and identifiable potential for development are encouraged to apply. In such cases, the appointment is likely to be made initially at Grade 5, with the prospect of promotion to Grade 6 once full performance of duties is achieved.
Salary Range:
£33,482 - £39,355 (Grade 6);
£30,805 - 35,116 (Grade 5), per annum
This is a full-time (36.5 hours/week), permanent role working Monday to Friday.
