Head of Geography

The Perse School - Geography

The Perse School is looking to appoint an ideally dynamic and inspiring teacher of Geography to take responsibility for the curriculum in this large, highly regarded and vibrant department. The successful candidate will have a relevant degree, genuine passion for the subject and be well placed to generate and sustain a high degree of motivation in all pupils, who are mainly of a high ability.

Teaching takes place in five dedicated Geography classrooms and other spaces around the school site. The team is accommodated in a department office. Lower School lessons are taught predominantly off-screen whilst GCSE and A-Level classes benefit from a communal set of OneNotes which are curated by departmental Unit Lead and Year Group Leads.

Geography is a core subject in years 7 to 9, and is one of the most popular GCSE options with 5 or 6 classes every year. We teach OCR A Geography GCSE and OCR A-Level.

Many A Level geographers go on to apply for degrees in the subject at top universities, and our students have annual success with applications to Oxbridge as well as other Russell group universities. There is a strong legacy of Old Persean geographers coming back to help in the department, including through the school’s 42 programme.

Public exam results regularly place The Perse in the top 20 schools nationally and in a typical year over 50 pupils will receive Oxbridge offers. The Perse enjoys a prestigious reputation and values a mixed approach to teaching and learning. We aim to respect tradition and innovation, industry and fun, and academic and personal growth. All teachers and pupils are required to demonstrate all-round excellence and contribute to the academic, pastoral and extra-curricular life of the school.

At The Perse School, we value the well-being of all staff and offer a supportive environment that balances professional ambitions with personal growth, opportunity and work-life balance.

Further details including how to apply can be obtained from our website via the 'Apply' button above.

Closing date: 1st May 2025 at 9.00am but applications will be considered as they are received; The Perse School reserves the right to make an appointment before the closing date.

The School actively supports equality, diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from all sections of society.
