Applications are invited for the post of Established Professor of Accountancy at J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics, University of Galway, Ireland.
Candidates should have a PhD in accounting or accounting-related area and a publication record and research supervision experience commensurate with the grade of appointment and preferably in areas of strength of the Accountancy & Finance group. In addition, they should have significant teaching experience in accounting modules, such as financial reporting, management accounting and auditing, at undergraduate and post graduate levels. Preference will be given to applicants with an ability to teach across more than one accounting area (e.g. auditing, financial accounting, management accounting). Candidates should have strong demonstrable leadership ability and an interest in leading and mentoring staff in the discipline. Applicants must have strong interpersonal and communication skills. The successful candidate will lead the Discipline of Accountancy and Finance, contribute to the leadership and development of J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics; engage in scholarship and research; carry out relevant teaching and assessment at all levels; and contribute to the intellectual life of the University and the wider community.
The Accountancy & Finance Discipline is recognised nationally and internationally for excellence in teaching and research. The Discipline offers three masters programmes: Master of Accounting; MSc in International Accounting and Analytics; and MSc in Corporate Finance. All of the masters programmes are accredited with global professional accounting bodies and the MSc in Corporate Finance is affiliated with CFA Institute. In addition, the Discipline delivers a designated undergraduate degree in Accounting (BComm (Accounting)) and has designated streams in both Accounting and Finance on the well-recognised Bachelor of Commerce programme, and delivers modules on corporate governance and performance management, as well as accountancy on the School’s flagship MBA programme. An important component of taught modules in the School is the consideration of subjects from environmental, social and governance perspectives and we seek to enable our students to be highly skilled, engaged and civically minded graduates to make positive and transformative contributions to society, business and policy.
