The Role and Department
The Department of Physics at Durham University is one of the top UK Physics departments with an outstanding reputation for excellence in teaching, research and employability of our students. Working with the Director of CfAI, the post holder will be responsible for developing and executing the strategic plan for CfAI’s projects and will work with senior academics and other stakeholders to ensure outputs from instrumentation projects are in line with University and Department strategy. The post holder will develop and maintain an operational structure that is in line with strategy, and recommend improvements to internal processes, communications, operational efficiency and the approach to line management of staff.
The post holder will provide the strategic input into the projects undertaken within CfAI in particular the coordination of the resources of a project team to ensure the timely delivery of projects. This will include forward planning, resource projection, and the identification, recruitment and development of new staff.
When required the post holder will also be responsible for technical and managerial support on projects working closely with both the internal and external stakeholders. They will also support proposal preparation specifically in relation to the costing, resource allocation and management. When applicable the post holder may also provide technical management support for specific projects, either directly, or through the management of dedicated Project Managers.
