The School of Computer Science and Engineering is seeking to recruit an experienced specialist technician who is committed, adaptable and keen to join our technical team as an Electronics and Robotics Technician. You must be proficient and have extensive experience as an electronics technician working in HE or similar learning environment with good understanding of health and safety as well as supporting students and staff in a variety of settings.
Candidates must have experience with demonstrating and training users on equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc), hardware (Raspberry Pi, Arduino, etc) and software. Experience of a low-level programming such as C/C++ and knowledge of high-level programming languages (Python, C#, Node.js, etc.) is highly desirable. You must have proven successful record working in a customer focused environment such as our University, to support our students, researchers and staff.
We particularly welcome applications from candidates that have experience in robotics and 3D Printing as well as knowledge of laser cutting and able to support these technologies to maintain our service offerings.
You will have good interpersonal skills to work with students at different stages of their learning journey and show patience and able to adapt to any situation to provide support and impart knowledge. As part of the role, you will be required to support competitions/hackathons, work based learning and extra-curricular activities being run by the school, as well as other opportunities for enterprise and income generation.
Computing Infrastructure and Technical team supports over 30 specialist labs belonging to the school and being used by well over 2500 students each year. Other specialist services such our hardware/electronics, robotics, 3D printing and laser cutting facilities to name a few. There are more than 100 specialist software, multiple operating systems including Windows, Linux and macOS.
You will be expected to maintain and support with the day-to-day running of specialist hardware and computer laboratories, facilities and other designated areas supported by the technical team.
