About the role
Our School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences are seeking an Associate Professor in High-Performance Computing, who will join the eponymous group led by Prof. Ashiq Anjum. The group has been successful in obtaining funding for a number of projects based on self-learning digital twins, and plans to expand into high-performance (classical and quantum) computing systems to accelerate AI models. Ability to strengthen any of these areas would be particularly welcome.
The role encompasses securing external research funding, supervising postgraduate researchers, and engaging in enterprise activities that generate external impact. Teaching responsibilities include delivering research-led instruction at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, developing innovative programmes, and enhancing the overall student experience. The position also entails contributing to the management and administration of the School, College, and University.
Our ambitious staff and students work in cooperation to deliver research, teaching and learning of the highest quality. The School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences provides a rich and diverse environment where both students and staff can thrive in a demanding yet cooperative and friendly atmosphere.
The School has research links with the DIRAC High Performance Computing facility, Space Park Leicester, the College of Life Sciences (including the Leicester Institute for Precision Health and the Leicester NIHR Biomedical Research Centre), and Institute for Environmental Futures at the University of Leicester and aims to strengthen and deepen these research links.
About you
With a PhD or equivalent in computer science, mathematics, or a related area, with substantial expertise in distributed and high-performance systems, you will be able to display proficiency in distributed and high-performance machine learning algorithms, methods for exploiting modern system architectures for high-performance AI, and quantum distributed computing.
A proven track record of internationally leading research, evidenced by high-quality publications and sustained achievement, is essential with experience in interdisciplinary research collaborations and securing external research funding being highly desirable. You should be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching and curriculum development, with the ability to inspire and support students across various levels.
