The Student and Academic Services (SaAS) leads on the development and provision of outstanding student facing services. The Directorate is responsible for ensuring that students have an excellent experience and provides services across the student and academic lifecycle from enrolment to graduation, covering everything from wellbeing services to ensuring new courses are set up correctly. The Directorate is at the centre of a transformation programme as we seek to make services which underpin our student experience more efficient and effective.

Delivery Services has a focus on student systems and data, and how these can be used to improve processes relating to the student lifecycle. Whether these processes are conducted internally or by our many stakeholders across BCU, we want them to run as effectively as possible for the benefit of both staff and students, and to have a positive influence on student outcomes and the university’s reputation.

Delivery Services is comprised of two strands:

  • Student Systems and Records with responsibility for the continued development of systems including our student records system (SITS); a portfolio of operational reports to support the annual cycle of activity.
  • Student Lifecycle, with responsibility for delivering key events in the student lifecycle such as examinations and award ceremonies, student fees and funding, and working with stakeholders across the university

We are seeking a report writer with experience in SSRS and SQL, along with knowledge of SITS table structures. In this role, you will leverage your expertise to support the development of live operational reports based on student data. You will be part of a team that is dedicated to improving business processes through the development of live student data reports.

You will be responsible for the design and development of reports for audiences from all levels of the University, playing a key role in providing analysis and data to staff that can make a positive impact to the student lifecycle. You will contribute to the team’s reporting output, ensuring reports are delivered on time to a high quality, playing a key role in development, peer review, sign-off and deployment, as well as providing expert technical support to users, investigating and resolving technical problems when they occur.

Your skills will enable you to play a crucial role in the development of operational reports, that have a real impact on individuals and the institution at large.

You will be education to a degree level or have a combination of professional qualifications, skills and experience at an equivalent level, along with extensive experience in the use of a corporate student record system, in particular SITS: Vision. You will have experience in designing and writing reports using SSRS, with an advanced understanding of SQL and Oracle databases. You will have good experience in web technologies relating to the provision and delivery of information, and ideally have experience in a similar role in a higher education environment.
