ABOUT US
Transforming lives through excellent education
London Met is an extraordinary institution. Equity and social inclusion have always been our driving principles, and it's what makes the University so unique. Our organisation is distinctive, both in its eclectic and diverse community of students and staff, and also for its historical role in serving some of London’s most deprived boroughs. Everything we do is underpinned by our philosophy that an individual should have the opportunity to transform their life through the power of education.
Equipping our students with the tools for their future is at the heart of our academic offering. We pride ourselves on providing our students with access to a wealth of opportunities and professions. Our graduates benefit personally, but also contribute their unique perspectives to society, culture, public service and the economy in all areas of London, the UK and around the world.
Library Services and Special Collections
This is an exciting time for Library Services and Special Collections as we extend our support to more courses at our main library at Holloway Road Campus whilst also supporting users at our Aldgate Campus with a small specialist library supporting the School of Art, Architecture and Design.
ABOUT THE POST
Following the retirement of our current Deputy Head of Library Operations, we are looking for someone with outstanding people skills, capable of bringing vision and innovative thinking to the development of frontline services and the learning environment whilst demonstrating knowledge and understanding of the trends and issues facing libraries and higher education.
In this pivotal role you will use your positive attitude and experience of library operational services to manage our operations team, oversee daily operations and monitor usage and satisfaction. You will support the Head of Library Operations in ensuring the smooth running of in-person and online support and develop staff to deliver library services to our students, staff and visitors to the highest standard providing an inclusive and supportive learning environment that students want to use. The ideal candidate will foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the library, helping to promote collections and support students in using them. You will be flexible, adaptable and have high attention to detail.
You will also play a key role as part of the Library Services and Special Collections management team in developing and implementing strategies to enhance user experience and student engagement and make a meaningful impact on the university's academic success and student experience.
Due to the nature of the job, this role is ‘campus first’ in which staff are normally required to spend all or most of their time working on campus. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
You are welcome to have an informal discussion with the Head of Library Operations, Laura Simmons (l.simmons@londonmet.ac.uk) about the role and any other queries you might have.
We look forward to welcoming you to our team!
