The role

The Bristol Innovations Programmes Team lead on the development of research enabled innovation opportunities, aligned to the University’s research and innovation ambitions and faculty strategies.

We work in an interdisciplinary way across faculties and research areas – building ambitious programmes of activity that aim to increase diverse income and inward investment through effective enterprise development and by pursing translational research opportunities with innovation potential.

Programme Managers help identify future trends and opportunities from government, industry and elsewhere - and work to position the University to take advantage of these.

As a cross-institutional service, we take a collaborative and collegiate approach to convene and bring people together, bridging both internally and externally with a multi-disciplinary approach and University wide view.

Programme Managers are assigned to programmes dependent on need, but the area that we expect this role to cover in the first instance will likely be under the themes of data and digitalisation and/or net zero.

  • Co-create and maintain programme plan/s with faculties, aligned to their innovation objectives
  • Help establish and run programme governance and communicate the work of the team
  • Carry out stakeholder mapping around opportunity areas and convene internal and external stakeholders around these, facilitating new discussions and collaborations
  • Operate at the interface of academia, business/ industry/ funders/ government, and facilitate and develop effective working relationships across and within these environments, confidently engaging at a senior level in all environments
  • Work collaboratively with others to identify key areas of diverse innovation funding and prepare for funding opportunities that progress programme objectives
  • Take identified opportunities through the relevant internal approvals processes, working with others across the University and external parties to secure successful outcomes.

You should apply if

  • You have strong programme and/or project management experience
  • You are a good convener of people and enjoy engaging with a wide range of stakeholders from different sectors and backgrounds around a specific topic
  • You have a relevant degree (or equivalent qualification or professional experience)
  • You have experience of developing strategic pieces of work, including business case writing
  • You have excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage and prioritise a challenging and varied workload whilst working to deadline
