Birkbeck, University of London, is looking for a User Services Assistant this Spring, on permanent, part-time contract working weekdays and weekends. 

It is an exciting opportunity to join the User Services team and make a difference to the student experience at Birkbeck.

The User Services Assistant plays a key role in providing a high-quality IT and Library customer-focussed service while working at the service desk and responding to enquiries in-person and online.

You will also be involved in students’ induction and orientation, and you will carry out communication and marketing activities including social media and the creation and maintenance of user guides.

The role is offered at part-time (13 hrs), and you'll work in a team rota to cover the online and in-person enquiry service, working Fridays (12pm-4pm); Saturdays (8pm-midnight); Sundays (3.15pm-8.15pm). 

To be a successful User Services Assistant you will have:

  • Previous experience of working in a public-facing role and as part of a team,
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills,
  • Commitment to the provision of an excellent customer service to library users. 

Birkbeck offers training to the successful candidate, and will expect the postholder to develop knowledge in many areas to assist with one-stop frontline enquiries about, for example: WiFi, printing, access to College platforms like Moodle, resources, membership, library facilities and study environment.

Salary and benefits:

£10,440 rising to £11,441 per annum - actual 0.37 FTE, (pro-rated £28,108 - £30,803 FTE), Grade 3 of the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance that applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the London area.

Contract:

Open-ended, permanent contract.
