Boston University London is the largest of Boston University’s (BU) study-abroad programmes, providing the opportunity to study in London for 900-1000 students from the US each year and employing around 100 staff and faculty. BU’s programme in London provides semester based, academic courses to undergraduate and graduate students in areas of Business, Communications and Media, Economics & Finance, Politics, Law & Social Sciences, and Arts and Humanities. 

BU London is looking to appoint a full-time Finance Business Partner. Candidates must have experience of supporting the Finance and HR functions within a small, busy office environment. This hands-on role is located in central London, and works in the 2 person Finance Department, reporting to the Assistant Director of Finance & Administration. 

Responsibilities cover a range of accounting, HR & administrative duties including:

  • Operational delivery of the site’s monthly payroll process end to end.
  • Working closely with key stakeholders including staff, faculty, vendors and students.
  • Ensuring compliance with BU London policy, HMRC, the Pension Regulator and UK Employment Laws.
  • Management of the company benefits packages, liaising with our benefits broker.
  • Processing and reconciliation of the pension funding.
  • Monthly reporting to HMRC.
  • Control and Maintain the Purchase Ledger, Nominal Ledger, Multiple Bank and Credit Card Accounts & Petty Cash.
  • Process financial transactions, including invoices, expense reports, deposits, BACS payments and purchase orders, and track information using financial databases.
  • Month End Reconciliations & Analysis
  • Update monthly cashflow forecast
  • Assist the Assistant Director, Finance and Administration and the BU London Director with budgets
  • Providing support in the absence of the Assistant Director, Finance and Administration 

The duties and responsibilities set out above are not exhaustive and may be changed or added to in the light of subsequent developments and the best interests of BU London. The Finance Business Partner will work with Senior Management, in London and Boston, and other members of staff on a regular basis.  

The role demands:

  • The role requires experience of researching, launching and implementing a payroll software solution
  • Discretion and confidentiality are of utmost importance at all times, due to the nature of the work
  • Relevant knowledge and experience of Sage Line 50, Microsoft Office and Sage HR (not essential)
  • Competency with Excel – having the ability to extract data from complex worksheets
  • Setting up workflows to support business functions
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills necessary to manage multiple and competing demands at once
  • The ability to work well under pressure, with a calm and professional manner
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with a range of users, from students to faculty and staff
  • Previous professional experience in a finance/accounting role at a university or in education is desirable
  • Ability to influence and advise more senior staff to meet required procedures and standards
  • Flexible, proactive and responsive outlook
  • Excellent team working skills
  • Ideally, candidates should have or being working towards a financial qualification (AAT/Part Qualified ACCA/CIMA). 

Candidates must have the unrestricted right to work in the UK. This is a full-time role with some flexibility on remote work (generally up to once/week).
