The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Library, a leading research library in East Asia, invites applications for an experienced academic librarian to play a leading role in the development of the Library’s digital services and innovation.
Reporting to the University Librarian, the appointee will be responsible for (a) contributing as a member of the Library’s Senior Management team to Library-wide strategic direction, planning and budget allocation and to all initiatives that advance the Library; (b) developing a strategic plan for the Library’s digital presence and activity, ensuring the IT infrastructure, the integrated library system and library’s technologies support the Library’s mission and strategic plan; (c) advising the University Librarian on developments in digital services and innovation and representing the Library on internal and external committees, working groups, etc.; (d) leading and managing a team of professional and support staff particularly in Library IT and Digital Initiatives; (e) leading inter-departmental projects and advising on the development and implementation of standards for digital services; and (f) any other duties as assigned.
Applicants should have (i) a good degree plus a postgraduate qualification in librarianship or information science, or equivalent; (ii) ideally substantial, at least ten years, recent experience of working at a senior level in an academic library, ideally including at least five years at a managerial level; (iii) excellent interpersonal and communication skills, team leadership and change management experience; (iv) proven ability to work collaboratively and influence senior academics and managers; (v) experience of managing multiple, complex projects; (vi) strong understanding of contemporary changes in research libraries and key developments in research, learning and teaching within higher education; and (vii) evidence of applying strategic thinking, vision and analytical skill to achieve measurable, high quality operational outcomes. Proficiency in both English and Chinese is desirable.
Appointment will initially be made on a contract basis for up to three years with contract-end gratuity, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
