ABOUT SCHOOL OF MATHEMATICS AND PHYSICS (SMP)

The School of Mathematics and Physics at XJTLU is one of the major schools in the University where we have about 2500 mathematics related majors. We have a Ph.D., Program where our graduates receive a PHD from the University of Liverpool. The school is aiming to become a world leading institution in industry and applied mathematics research. 

The Department of Pure Mathematics with 20 faculty members is committed to excellence in research and teaching at XJTLU. The department delivers modules for multiple programmes, including Applied Mathematics programme and financial mathematics programme, which are of a more abstract nature.

The department staff are internationally recognized for their high-quality research output in a number of pure mathematical disciplines such as algebra, combinatorics, dynamical systems, geometry, number theory, and topology. 

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Head of the Department of Pure Mathematics is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the strategic, academic, and operational management of the department. This includes providing leadership in teaching, research, and faculty development, while ensuring the department aligns with the overall strategic goals of the School and University. The successful candidate will demonstrate a clear vision for the future development of the department, foster an environment of academic excellence, and lead efforts in research, curriculum design, and student success.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

• A PhD in Pure Mathematics or a related field;
• With a proven track record of academic excellence and leadership;
• Experience managing and leading a team of faculty and staff;
• Experience working with industry partners and stakeholders, and a commitment to promoting industry engagement and innovation.
