The role

We wish to appoint a dynamic and enthusiastic Consultant Senior Lecturer in Colorectal Cancer to join the School for Cellular and Molecular Medicine. The service commitment will be based at North Bristol NHS Trust. The post holder will split their time equally between the two functions of this clinical academic post.

What will you be doing?

You will have a national and growing international reputation for research excellence in colorectal cancer. You will be encouraged to develop your own independent research programme and collaborate with other research scientists at the University of Bristol with interests in Cancer.

You will mentor early career and mid-career researchers, contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes (including supervising MSc and PhD students), and provide academic leadership for your discipline.

You will have specific clinical responsibilities as part of the colorectal team at North Bristol NHS Trust.

You should apply if

  • You will have experience of and an enthusiasm for teaching and supporting undergraduate and postgraduate learning.
  • You will have depth and breadth of knowledge in an academic discipline which supports the development of new knowledge and understanding in colorectal cancer research.
  • There will be external evidence - both national and international - of impactful research excellence, including a recent portfolio of outputs including those of internationally excellent or world-leading quality.
  • You will have a record of winning grant funding to support research, with evidence of ability to apply to funders which would contribute to the indirect research income of the School.
  • You will have experience of successfully leading groups and contributing to the development of fellow academics.
  • You will be registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and hold a licence to practice, and will be on the GMC specialist register for colorectal cancer within 6 months of the interview date.
  • You will have a minimum of 5 years postgraduate experience including higher surgical/medical training, three years as a Senior Registrar in an approved training post, or equivalent.  Part of this period may be in a post of equivalent responsibility and training potential.
  • You will have training and independent operating experience in diagnosis and treatment of colorectal general surgery conditions.
