The Research Department of Medical Education (RDME) is an interdisciplinary department of clinicians, psychologists, linguists, philosophers, and educationalists based within UCL Medical School and is recognised nationally and internationally for its high-quality medical education research. RDME was the only department to submit under Medical Education in the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014 and in REF 2020 came top for research power in a joint submission with the Institute of Education. In 2021 RDME received a national award from the Association for the Study of Medical Education for commitment to scholarship.

The aims of our research are to make a substantial contribution to education and training of medical students, doctors-in-training and the medical workforce nationally and internationally. We work with medical regulators, policy makers, healthcare providers, healthcare organisations, patients and the public, to ensure medical education research has real-world impact on the workforce and patient care.

About the role

This is an new and exciting opportunity to develop your career as a medical education researcher. We are seeking to appoint a Non-clinical Research Fellow in Medical Education Research to support RDME in the delivery of new and existing medical education research projects. The post holder will also be expected to support in developing and designing the department’s public engagement, education consultancy, outreach, and equality activities. The post holder will have the opportunity to develop their own research profile and to lead on research projects that are of interest to them and the department. In addition, they will be expected to contribute to publications submitted to refereed journals and to help seek external research funding.

About you

You will enjoy working as a key member of a highly productive research team working under the direction of the Director of Research, and your supervision team. Working as part of this team you will be interested in delivering research that advances the state of knowledge and understanding in, medical education, ensuring the department’s research outputs reflect the objectives of RDME and UCL Medical School. This supervision team will support your continued development as a researcher, and as you progress to take on new leadership roles.
