About The Role

The department is recruiting a full time and part time (0.5) Lecturer in Creative Writing.

Creative Writing is a vibrant, growing discipline, and an integral part of the Department of English Literature and the School of Culture and Communication. The birthplace of Dylan Thomas, Swansea has long been considered an important creative and cultural centre, and Creative Writing is dedicated to the promotion of literature and imaginative endeavour in Wales and beyond. We are seeking to recruit both a full time and a part time lecturer in Creative Writing, working with a committed and supportive team, to deliver modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate level in dramatic writing (writing for performance/writing for the stage), writing fiction (literary, popular, writing for children), and writing creative non-fiction (nature writing, travel, memoir, et al.) All members of the Creative Writing team are professional practitioners in their own fields, many winning awards and international recognition for their work. We expect that all candidates will actively write and publish and believe they will be inspired by Swansea’s stunning location and rich, cultural scene. The successful candidates` may be asked to teach outside their specific areas of expertise and will also be expected to play a full role in the Department of English Literature and Creative Writing, in terms of administration duties, personal tutors, student support, and such tasks as appropriate to the role.’ Creative Writing offers a thriving undergraduate, Masters, and PhD program, with over fifty PhD students currently working in the area. Welsh Language Skills

The Welsh language level required for this role is Level 1 - A little. The role holder will be able to pronounce Welsh words, answer the phone in Welsh (good morning/afternoon) and use very basic everyday words and phrases (thank you, please etc.). Level 1 can be reached by completing a 1 hour course.
