Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU) now invites candidates for the position of Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology which is expected to be filled as soon as possible.
Job Description
The Faculty of Science and Technology offers nine undergraduate programmes: Applied Mathematics, Applied Psychology, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science and Technology, Data Science, Environmental Science, Financial Mathematics, Food Science and Technology, and Statistics. Additionally, the Faculty offers three taught master programmes: Master of Arts in Communication-Artificial Intelligence & Digital Media Concentration (AIDM), Master of Science in Sustainable Energy Technology and Management (SETM) and Master of Science in Data Science with Concentration in Business Statistics (MSCBS), along with five research postgraduate programmes in Applied Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science and Technology, and Probability and Mathematical Statistics. Our focus is on comprehensive professional training, while emphasizing the students' holistic development through social awareness and self-cultivation.
The appointee will provide vision, strategic direction and academic leadership of the Faculty, in support of the wider University’s strategic ambitions to be leading, diverse, digital and sustainable. The appointee should be a visionary leader and distinguished scholar, who is eligible for faculty appointment as a full professor or a chair professor in one or more of the Faculty’s teaching and/or research fields. S/he reports to the Vice-President (Academic Affairs) and other members of the senior management team, contributing to the advancement of the University. The Dean is expected to provide effective direction and delegate responsibility within the Faculty when appropriate, including (1) execution of all Faculty’s initiatives and planning; (2) facilitation of academic and administrative development by providing effective guidance in all aspects of the Faculty’s academic programmes, research endeavors, and community outreach activities; (3) acting as an inspiring role model and ensuring the Faculty continues to provide a high-quality academic experience for students and a stimulating environment for the staff; and (4) provide leadership in matters for staff development, recruitment and retention.
Job Requirement
The successful candidate must hold a PhD awarded by a globally recognized university, currently holds a senior academic position (at least at full professor level) in his/her institution and have rich experience in academic leadership, strategic planning, and personnel management, as well as senior academic management experience in a university or research institution, with a strong commitment to the promotion and implementation of Liberal Arts education. The candidate should have a clear collaborative commitment and the ability to develop and implement teaching and research strategies and is able to build and sustain effective working relationships, both internally and externally. S/he must have a high level of communicative competence in English, while a strong ability in Chinese (Putonghua and/or Cantonese) is preferred. Candidates with administration and management experience in international universities or Sino-foreign joint universities, or familiar with the education systems in both Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland would be an advantage.

Appointment Terms
Appointment to this position will initially be made on a fixed-term contract of three years. Continuation of appointment beyond the initial term will be subject to mutual agreement.
