UCC wishes to appoint an experienced academic to the role of Lecturer (Below Bar) in Education (with an expertise in Early Years and Childhood Studies). Reporting to the Head of School this role will primarily involve contributing to the delivery of modules and the support of students across the UCC Early Years and Childhood programme, though, the appointee will also be expected to contribute more widely to and across other School of Education programmes.
The role will involve lecturing in the discipline of Early Years and Childhood Studies, supporting postgraduate studies, undertaking research, and building and sustaining community links in the Early Years and Childhood Studies field, while contributing to UCC academic life. The successful candidate will ideally hold a doctorate or equivalent in Early Years and Childhood Studies, or evidence of significant progress (i.e near completion/submission) towards a doctoral degree award in Early Years and Childhood. In addition, it is desirable that the successful candidate holds a minimum Level 8 professional qualification in Early Years & Childhood Studies (or equivalent Early Childhood Care and Education programme as recognised by the QAB) or a teaching qualification in primary education as recognised by the Teaching Council. S/he will demonstrate a broad understanding of the Early Years & Childhood sector and will ideally have experience as a practitioner in the early years sector/settings.
Evidence of research experience, appropriate to the grade of the post, in the discipline of Early Years & Childhood generally and contribution to the broader field of social sciences/education would also be requisite for appointment to the post. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic and innovative School of Education immersed in the education of early years practitioners and teachers at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and supported by a vibrant research culture.
Please note that Garda vetting and/or an international police clearance check may form part of the selection process.
