Rosalind Franklin Institute – Research Facility Team

The Assistant Facilities Manager will play a central part in supporting the daily operation of the facilities. Providing support to our Research Facility team and contributing to the smooth running of our labs. It is a blend of hands-on and co-ordination duties, within a small high performing operational team with a values-based culture.

Responsibilities                                                                                                                    

As the Assistant Facilities Manager, you will:

  • Produce area specific risk assessments and Standard Operating Procedures for Facilities managed areas
  • Asset management and build of database working in conjunction with Finance Team, Science Facility and Laboratory Managers
  • Liaison and planning of periodic shutdowns and Planned Preventative Maintenance with Estates Mechanical and Compliance teams and internal coordination with Science Facility and Laboratory Managers
  • Liaison with Cleaning contractor and Estates Soft Services including periodic review inspections
  • Support for periodic inspections (Fire, First Aid, Safety etc.)
  • Review of maintenance contracts on equipment in conjunction with Finance Team
  • Periodic small plant and equipment maintenance and monitoring activities
  • Contractor induction and supervision whilst duties are being undertaken on site

 Other Duties:

  • Review, develop, update and implement local policies and procedures for the department in accordance with statutory and organisational guidelines.
  • To be aware of and exercise personal and Institute responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act and other related matters.
  • To carry out any other duties as required by the Head of Facilities to deliver the wider service to The Franklin within the skills of the post holder.
  • Deputising for Head of Facilities during periods of absence
  • Cover of Goods in and dispatch during periods of absence
