About the role:

We are looking for a Research Assistant to support this important clinical study involving statin use in people with Type 1 Diabetes.

Research in the Cardio-Respiratory Interface Section encompasses physiology and pathology of the cardiovascular system and lung plus their associated diseases. Our expertise includes molecular and cell biology, biochemistry, microscopy, pharmacology and clinical medicine. Our broader interests extend to muscle wasting, cancer, HIV, pulmonary hypertension, chronic cardiopulmonary diseases and drug discovery. Our research identifies mechanisms of physiology and disease whilst providing key approaches that underpin the study of heart and lung disease through interdisciplinary collaboration within the National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI) and via cross-Faculty, national and international collaborators

What you would be doing:

  • You will be responsible to isolate, characterise and test functional responses of vascular cells including blood outgrowth vascular cells (BOECs) from control donors and donors with Type 1 Diabetes.
  • To isolate, characterise and test functional responses of vascular cells from control donors and donors with type 1 diabetes.
  • To support the clinical study involving statin use in people with type 1 diabetes.
  • To identify and develop suitable techniques, and apparatus, for the collection and analysis of data

What we are looking for:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Cellular and Molecular Biology.
  • You will have practical experience with immunohistochemistry techniques, senescence assay and migration assays, including real time PCR and sequencing techniques.

Further Information

This is a fixed term, full time role which ends on 31 December 2026 based at the Hammersmith Campus.

In the Cardio-Respiratory Interface Section, we study biological and pathological processes at the fundamental molecular and cellular level, to understand normal physiological function, disease processes and the therapeutic effects of drug-like molecules. We use a variety of model systems and also human or patient resources. Much of our research will have longer term benefits for human health, and some is aimed at rapidly impacting patients.
