The role
This is an exciting opportunity for a Space Planning Manager to join the University of Bristol’s Campus Planning and Design Team at a pivotal moment in shaping the future of the University campus.
The role will focus on both immediate planning needs aligned with the University Strategy and the development of long-term, visionary space and place strategies across the University.
The University is committed to creating forward-thinking, adaptable, and efficient learning and working environments that respond effectively to evolving needs. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, the Space Planning Manager will provide data-driven, evidence-based recommendations to guide space planning decisions. They will collaborate with stakeholders across the University to shape policies and project plans, ultimately influencing investment and development strategies for the University’s built environment.
What will you be doing?
Our Space Planning Managers serve as key connectors between a diverse range of professional and academic colleagues, departments, and stakeholders—both within and outside the University. As a vital part of the Campus Planning and Design team, they leverage their expertise in space data and design to analyse space needs and collaboratively plan the future use of the campus.
In this role, they will oversee space data maintenance and contribute to developing building scopes and briefs for strategic initiatives and projects. These efforts will integrate professional and teaching operational needs, sustainability goals—including the pursuit of a net zero carbon campus—and capital projects aimed at transforming the University’s estate.
Working within a dynamic, multi-disciplinary studio environment, Space Planning Managers play a crucial role in managing new space requests, shaping the future of the campus, and driving innovative approaches to space and placemaking. Their work involves forward-thinking planning, optimising space use, and influencing strategic decisions to ensure the campus evolves efficiently and effectively.
You should apply if
You must have a passion for making a difference; huge enthusiasm for the function of space planning, the interpretation of data and excellent skill-sets in space and place shaping through collaborative working; a Degree (or equivalent) in a numerate discipline plus experience of collaborating with multidisciplinary teams providing built environment expertise and support; committed to positive change and shaping the future of the tertiary education sector; excellent interpersonal skills.
