About the role

You will be located within the Institute for Policy Research (IPR) at the University of Bath. You will be line-managed by Professor Nick Pearce, Director of the IPR and Dr Charles Larkin, Director of Research in the IPR. 

You will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team at the IPR and with other universities as part of the existing portfolio of research projects at the IPR. 

These research areas include but are not limited to research into universal basic income, the operation of the UK welfare state, pensions and social security, climate change, government and democracy, and technology and government, inclusive of the role of AI on democracy. 

The IPR also co-operates with the School of Social and Policy Studies in the delivery of a successful MSc in Public Policy and a Professional Doctorate in Policy Research and Practice.  

Your work will involve occasionally liaising with civil servants and policymakers as well as doing research, writing reports and assisting with IPR events and conferences.

About you

The successful applicant will have completed by the post start date, a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in law, history, economics, public policy, politics or other related social science. 

Quantitative research skills are desirable but not essential. 

You must have excellent organisational and planning skills and the ability to communicate effectively and confidently at all levels and to different audiences. 

You must also have excellent writing skills and some experience of producing written outputs for a variety of audiences. 

You will have the ability to work under pressure and to multiple deadlines, and the ability to manage your own areas of responsibility independently without constant direct supervision.
