ROLE PURPOSE:
The Academic Programme Manager will provide strategic and operational leadership for the newly launched suite of Computing and IT programmes at GBS Malta. This role involves overseeing the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of home-grown programmes. As a leadership position, the role requires ensuring the highest academic standards, student success, and faculty excellence, while aligning with GBS Malta’s strategic objectives.
You Will:
Academic Leadership & Programme Management
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Computing and IT programmes to ensure they align with industry needs and academic standards.
- Ensure academic excellence by overseeing curriculum development, assessment strategies, and teaching quality.
- Monitor student progression, retention, and achievement, implementing strategies to enhance student outcomes.
- Work closely with faculty to standardize learning and assessment materials across modules and levels.
- Manage programme delivery, ensuring that teaching teams are supported and that resources are efficiently utilized.
- Ensure compliance with internal quality assurance policies and regulatory requirements.
Faculty & Student Engagement
- Line manage and mentor academic staff.
- Ensure faculty actions are aligned with programme goals and academic standards.
- Oversee student support initiatives, ensuring high-quality academic guidance, pastoral care, and career development support.
- Implement strategies to enhance student engagement, attendance, and academic performance.
- Respond to student academic concerns in line with institutional policies.
Quality Assurance & Reporting
- Ensure rigorous internal verification and moderation processes.
- Direct the standardisation of assessments and marking criteria.
- Prepare academic performance reports using quantitative and qualitative data to support the Associate Dean in strategic decision-making.
- Lead the process of external moderation, ensuring all documentation is accurately prepared.
Operational & Strategic Leadership
- Contribute to the strategic planning of the Computing and IT programmes, ensuring alignment with GBS Malta’s vision.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to drive innovation in programme delivery and pedagogy.
- Represent the School in internal governance meetings and contribute to institutional decision-making.
- Lead initiatives to enhance the employability of graduates, fostering links with industry and professional bodies.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- A Master’s degree (or higher) in Computing, IT, or related field.
- Proven experience in curriculum development, assessment design, and quality assurance across a wide range of subject matters (e.g. Software Development, Data Science, AI, Cyber Security, etc.)
- Experience managing academic staff and fostering faculty development.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrable experience in building relationships with industry & other commercial stakeholders.
- A track record of enhancing student success through strategic initiatives.
- Proficiency in data analysis for monitoring student performance and programme effectiveness.
Desirable:
- Recognised teaching qualification (PGCert, FHEA, or equivalent).
- Experience with regulatory and accreditation processes in higher education.
- Industry experience in a Technology environment
- PhD or significant industry experience in Computing/IT.
- Experience leading teams through institutional growth or change.
- Strong leadership experience in an academic setting, particularly in programme management.
