Institute and Departmental Introduction
The Institute of the Arts Barcelona (IAB) offers seven programmes of study and learning pathways, forming a comprehensive educational portfolio. Comprising three departments, along with key finance, operations, and engagement teams, the Institute strives for excellence in creativity, learning, teaching, and research. It is dedicated to delivering programmes that are unique, relevant, aligned with industry demand, and characterised by dynamic teaching environments and contemporary learning strategies.
The IAB aims to provide a stimulating, industry-integrated environment that fosters communication, collaboration, and innovation among a diverse community of learners within various creative and cultural contexts. Our academic faculty work closely with support staff in immersive, flexible, and work-based settings. The IAB is home to over 100 staff and 450 learners specialising in Acting, Dance, Commercial Dance, and Musical Theatre.
The Musical Theatre Department has been an integral part of the IAB for nearly a decade and is one of the EU’s leading providers of tertiary, degree-based education in musical theatre. Dedicated to excellence in musical theatre training, the department aims to develop fully integrated performers capable of thriving in the global performing arts industry. Its focus and reach are global, requiring strong advocacy at this level.
The department’s offerings currently include a Foundation Course (Musical Theatre), BA(Hons) Musical Theatre, and Master in Creative Performance Practice (Music Theatre). With nearly 190 full-time students, the Musical Theatre Department represents a substantial part of the IAB's provision. Led by an internationally recognised faculty, the department’s strong and effective links with the community and industry ensure vocational and professional programmes that equip graduates with practical and creative skills.
Purpose of the Role
The Institute of the Arts Barcelona (IAB) seeks a dedicated and experienced Programme Leader to oversee its BA (Hons) Musical Theatre programme. This role requires a dynamic individual with expertise in musical theatre and proven leadership and educational skills. The Programme Leader will ensure the artistic and academic vision of the programme aligns with IAB’s mission and strategic goals, delivering a high-quality educational experience that prepares students for professional success in the global performing arts industry.
