The University of the West of Scotland is recruiting a Research Project Manager to grow our research capability.

Based in Research Services, a dynamic department providing professional funding advice and support to academic colleagues, this exciting new post-award project management role will see the postholder undertake general administration and management of a portfolio of projects, as well as oversee, plan, organise and communicate the activities generated by those projects. The Research Project Manager will support Principal Investigators to coordinate and support multidisciplinary teams of researchers, from across its university and other partners, with teams of varying sizes depending on the research project.

This position will initially support two interdisciplinary UKRI-funded projects in the UWS School of Health and Life Sciences, ‘Early intervention systems for sustainable aquaculture health in Viet Nam and Thailand’ and ‘Working with Dementia Network Plus’. The research project manager will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the research projects, working closely with the project PIs to ensure /to oversee project budgets and the distribution of funds between partners. 

The successful candidate should have the following:

  • Undergraduate degree in relevant life sciences, environmental sciences, public health or social sciences. A post-graduate degree in a related subject would be beneficial.
  • Experience building relationships with stakeholders.
  • Appropriate evidence of project planning skills, ability to understand, collate and analyse complex information.
  • Have experience of delivering/managing research projects, and understand the operational requirements needed to comply with University policy and procedures including governance, quality assurance, quality enhancement, finance.
  • A good understanding of terms and Conditions for research grant funding.
  • Commitment to working and leading international teams of academic and research staff in delivering research impact.
