The University of California, Los Angeles seeks to make an interdisciplinary tenure-track hire in Music and Critical Data Studies to support programs in Musicology and Music Industry. The position will be split between the Department of Musicology and the Interdepartmental Degree Program (IDP) in Music Industry, with the primary appointment residing in the Department of Musicology.
This search is not limited by region or historical period, and is sponsored by DataX, a campus-wide initiative to improve data science and critical data studies by strengthening our robust, diverse and cross-disciplinary community of scholars. The successful candidate will have a PhD in a research-oriented discipline such as, but not limited to, music studies (in its broadest sense); history of science; STS; global studies; digital humanities; critical art practice; economics; law; and/or data science.
Candidates whose work or practice brings critical intersectional perspectives to discourses around music and data (broadly construed); political, social, or environmental justice; community engaged research; or digital methods in archival research, are especially invited to apply. The department and IDP are seeking an outstanding candidate with the potential for exceptional research, excellence in teaching, and also a clear commitment to the department’s connection to the community, enhancing the diversity of the faculty, graduate student population, and of the majors in both Musicology and Music Industry (understood globally).
The University of California seeks to recruit and retain a diverse workforce as a reflection of our commitment to serve the people of California; maintain the excellence of the University; and offer our students richly varied disciplines, perspectives, and ways of knowing and learning. UCLA has programs to assist in partner employment, childcare, schooling, and other family concerns.
