An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our supportive team as we deliver our BSc programme in Professional Policing in addition to our successful undergraduate and postgraduate Criminology provision. We are looking to appoint a Lecturer in Professional Policing (Grade 8) to join our area. the successful applicant will join a team of over 20 academic colleagues based in the School of Criminology, Sociology, and Policing with expertise across the discipline in areas that include: policing; organised crime; drivers to criminal behaviour; violence; victimisation; history of crime; the supervision of offenders; imprisonment and intelligence & surveillance. We are seeking to appoint a lecturer to play a leading role in the growth of our teaching, scholarship and knowledge exchange in Policing within the vibrant wider School setting.  

We work with knowledge exchange and research partners across the University and we have excellent links with local, national and international criminal justice organisations and practitioners. These links present many exciting opportunities for applied knowledge exchange, research, and innovation. The successful candidate will be supported to produce high quality knowledge exchange, scholarship and engaging, innovative teaching.

We welcome applications from any area of policing, and we are particularly keen to appoint a new colleague who has extensive experience of professional practice and can contribute to teaching Policing and capitalise on our knowledge exchange and impact links in this area. You will be an enthusiastic and friendly professional with excellent communication and interpersonal skills coupled with a commitment to providing an excellent student experience. Applicants must have a postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject, but it is essential for them to possess substantial equivalent practical experience in policing. For appointment at Band 8 experience of teaching in HEI is also essential. In particular, significant professional experience in criminal investigation, public protection, response policing, roads policing and community policing would be an advantage. Formal teaching experience is preferred, Applicants who do not hold a teaching qualification would be expected to work towards one if successful.
