We have a brand-new and exciting opportunity to change the landscape of IT and systems within the Nuffield Department of Medicine (NDM) as the Director of Digital Information. Responsible for leading the strategic IT services, this role will form an integral part of the Senior Leadership Team. The successful candidate will play an important part in the strategic direction, development, delivery and management of IT and digital services across the Department.
The Director of Digital Information will be focused on the delivery of a resilient, efficient and effective professional IT service, with full responsibility for the life cycle of the services delivered, ensuring that services are developed in line with the Department’s, Division's and the University's relevant strategies and policies.
You will be responsible for leading and managing the Departmental IT staff, building an effective and motivated team, and working with senior academic members of the Department to understand and strategically plan to support the IT needs of research and teaching. You will implement consistent and effective processes for IT service management throughout the Department, drawing on relevant frameworks and industry good practice to ensure that meaningful management and service user information is provided. Other responsibilities include leading and ensuring the effective delivery of major Departmental IT projects, overseeing all departmental systems and tools, ensuring resilience and effectiveness of operation and ensuring there is a clear process for evaluating requests for new services, and for reviewing and retiring existing services so that agreed service provision needs are met, within budgetary constraints.
To be successful in this role, you will educated to degree level or equivalent, along with significant demonstrable experience of leading a large or complex IT capability. You will be experienced in the delivery of outstanding IT services using industry-accepted frameworks, and able to build and maintain effective working relationships and manage a diverse range of stakeholders. It is essential you have proven abilities to plan and manage resources across multiple diverse projects to meet agreed deadlines, and a demonstrable record of inspiring and delivering change, at scale and pace. Experience of managing a large and complex IT service in a biomedical, research-led, higher education context would be highly desirable.
