Research Assistant or Research Fellow in Actuation and Control Systems for Hydrogen Aerospace Applications

Fixed Term Contract for 2 years, or until 31 March 2027, whichever is sooner

Research Assistant (Master's completed): £28,929–£33,825 per annum (dependent on experience).

Research Assistant (near PhD completion): Starting at £34,450 per annum.

Research Fellow (PhD obtained): Starting at £37,337 per annum.

We welcome passionate and talented applicants to join our pioneering team to drive innovation in sustainable aerospace technologies through advanced research in actuation and control for hydrogen systems.

About the Role

You will develop, or assist to develop, novel cryogenic valve systems for controlling liquid hydrogen flow in zero-emission aircraft. This involves designing and optimising electromagnetic actuators, developing power electronic circuits, and implementing control algorithms. You will engage in advanced modelling, simulation, prototype development, and validation to support the engineering efforts of Actuation Lab Ltd.

About You

You will have a PhD (or close to completion) in Electrical/Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with hands-on experience with simulation tools such as Ansys, MATLAB/Simulink, or Altair PSIM. For Research Assistant, you will have an MSc in these areas. 

You will have proven ability to develop and implement microprocessor-based control algorithms and experience with cryogenic systems or mechatronic designs in extreme environments is desirable.

You must have strong analytical skills, the ability to work independently and in a team, with excellent planning, and organisational skills.
