Senior Lecturer in Business Management

THE ROLE

The Senior Lecturer in Business Management and DBA program manager will be required to devise a range of teaching and assessment materials, covering several modules and subject areas within the DBA (Doctor of Business Administration) programme. The DBA is a professional doctorate which provides a structured programme of study through taught modules at Part I and a research thesis at Part II, closely integrated with an individual’s professional career development.

The Senior Lecturer is expected to contribute to the intellectual life of the Institute’s and the wider University and also champion their individual research fields and/or academic specialism.

They will be required to lead and/or teach modules such as Quantitative Research Methods, Research Principles and Philosophy, Theoretical Perspectives on Management and Research Dissertation. The ability and willingness to lead on other postgraduate business management programmes will be an advantage.

The post holder will deliver teaching in a variety of different learning environments and use a variety of teaching styles and approaches. The post holder will offer both academic and pastoral feedback, support students to the highest professional standards, and with regard to the ongoing enhancement of the student experience. This will include the development of a wide variety of lifelong learning competencies for DBA students across both Part I and Part II of the programme.

MAIN DUTIES

  • Offer teaching and student support in an area of Business and Management at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  • Contribute to stakeholder engagement, course delivery and development of wider strategic initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of operational plans for the delivery of the DBA Programme, providing information to enable efficient and effective planning that meets programme objectives.
  • Offer teaching in a variety of learnings settings.
  • Design and develop teaching materials, assessment methods and criteria, for individual modules or modules within a specific subject area, with a clear awareness and understanding of relevant QA requirements.
  • Supervise the work of students in a timely, professional and supportive manner.
  • Offer appropriate advice, feedback, support, and encouragement to students, in both an academic and personal tutor role, to ensure a high-quality student experience.
  • Undertake programme management responsibilities.
  • Undertake relevant scholarly and research activity as a means of updating knowledge in an appropriate specialism, underpinning effective learning and teaching, for seeking publication, knowledge transfer, public dissemination, and/or for funding and grant opportunities.
  • Engage in continuing professional development and enhancement.
  • Undertake appropriate administrative tasks.
  • Be an active and enthusiastic member of the Discipline, making a positive contribution to the overall culture and environment of the School.

REQUIREMENTS

You should have:

  • A PhD/DBA in a relevant discipline or any other doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline
  • Experience in teaching, delivery, assessment and student support at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level in a relevant subject area
  • Experience in the design and development of module content at Postgraduate and doctoral level
  • Evidence of good organisational and personal management skills, including successful PhDs/DBA completions
  • Evidence of excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively
  • IT proficiency and experience of using e-resources, including a willingness to teach by video-link, VLE, e-mail or website delivery
  • Evidence of the ability to balance competing pressures of teaching, scholarship, research, administrative demands and deadlines
