Programme Benefit and Cost Analyst

The Finance Transformation Programme (FTP) is a £65m multi-year programme to modernise the University's finance capabilities, delivering new processes, technology and governance to provide the University with the financial insights and quality management information it needs to properly evaluate its financial sustainability and make informed strategic planning decisions. The programme supports the University's academic mission to maintain its status as one of the world's leading providers of education and research, while remaining competitive in a challenging sector.  

The Role

This role is based in the University's Finance Division. Ensuring that the programme and its component projects deliver the benefits outlined in their business case within their respective cost budgets, this is a key programme role covering two aspects of the programme's management:

Analysis and management of the Programme's budget and costs:

You will work with programme and project managers to provide financial and qualitative analysis of the programme's finances, specifically:

• Review project and programme budgets
• Quarterly re-forecast of costs to the end of the programme
• Monthly review of actual costs, variance analysis and investigation of anomalies
• Prepare reports of the programme's financial status for the Programme Board.

Analysis and management of the Programme's benefits:

You will work with Workstream Leads and Business Analysts to identify and quantify the benefits that the programme will deliver, and will support stakeholders across the University to ensure that benefits are realised, specifically:

• Identify benefits that the programme can deliver (working with Workstream Leads)
• Develop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that will enable the benefit to be measured
• Determine current performance baselines and agree future performance targets
• Maintain the FTP Benefits Register
• Identify risks to the programme achieving its benefits and advise mitigating actions
• Support stakeholders in the University's institutions to access and achieve programme benefits
• Prepare benefits status reports for the FTP Board and senior stakeholders

Your Skills

Candidates for the role will be:

• Experienced in providing financial and business analysis support to business stakeholders
• A qualified or part-qualified accountant or having significant experience in a similar role
• Comfortable working with a wide variety of stakeholders across the University, and with senior stakeholders within the programme
• Adaptable, and adept at working in a fast-changing environment
• A team player with excellent communication skills and the ability to serve, motivate and focus a cross-functional team.

Location

The University is supportive of hybrid working, where some work is undertaken on University premises and some in a remote working environment. The aim of our approach is to enable as many staff as possible to work in a hybrid way if they wish and where their role allows. This arrangement is subject to change and will not form a part of the contractual terms of the role. 

Funding for this post is available for two years.
