Role Description
Role
The Placements Coordinator supports students and employers to engage in the University’s work-based / placements learning programmes. In this case the role is primarily focused on students of the Department Environment and Geography. Based within the department you will work with academics, students and host organisations, including major employers, and also be part of a wider Careers and Placements team; providing professional and process support to your work. This will include: identifying appropriate potential opportunities, supporting students to prepare and successfully compete for these opportunities, and then ensuring that the experience of placement is safe and developmental. Your work will focus primarily on a 8 month placement module but you will also be involved in other forms of work-related learning including summer internships and curriculum projects for both new and existing programmes. The post involves working with students on a one-to-one basis to support their search for placements and monitoring their progress when they are successful. You will also deliver group training sessions on related subjects, both in person and online. Working across two teams you will also play a wider role in promoting employability at the University of York. This role is available on a part time basis at 22.2 hours per week (0.6 FTE).
Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
You will be a graduate and have experience of working with students, preferably in a work based learning context. A qualification in careers guidance, coaching or training is desirable but not essential. You will be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the processes involved in delivering work based learning and be able to appropriately support students from a wide range of backgrounds. Working with employers as well as students and academic colleges will require excellent communications skills and an ability to represent the University and what it has to offer. An interest in the careers and opportunities attractive to students of Environment and Geography would be an advantage.
