Senior Lecturer in Social Work

Kingston University - Department of Social Work and Social Care

Location: Kingston upon Thames, London
Salary: £49,218 to £58,028 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 28th February 2025
Closes: 31st March 2025
Job Ref: 580841

The Role

This is a career-defining opportunity at the heart of a forward-looking department with a strong team ethos, with opportunities for development and inter-professional working as part of a dynamic and innovative staff group.

You will be an influential member of a team of academics behind a varied programme of research-led teaching, workshops, seminars and practice-based learning delivered in a purpose-built skills' lab.

Taking responsibility for a subject area or range of modules which include readiness for direct practice, you will coordinate a team of talented colleagues to deliver the vibrant, real-world education your students deserve. A natural leader and resource manager you will also plan, deliver and assess a range of modules, using a variety of technologies and approaches. Research is, naturally, a key part of our make-up and you will supervise capstone research projects and undertake your own research challenges.

Working side-by-side with talented colleagues you will share knowledge and expertise through professional consultancy, pursuing opportunities that will generate profitable income and supporting students with valuable practice placements wherever possible.

In this role you will:

  • develop and deliver teaching across the portfolio of programmes delivered in the Department of Social Work and Social Care at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • ensure a high quality of learning and student experience throughout the student journey.
  • undertake key service roles within the Department, or more broadly across the School/Faculty
  • undertake research related activities to ensure the Department’s programmes are informed by current research evidence and reflect national policy and good practice.

The Person

We are looking to recruit a motivated academic with interest in practice education, who is a strong team player with a track record of teaching social work in a Higher Education Institute.

You will hold a doctorate or be working towards a doctorate or hold a master’s degree in social work (or a relevant discipline) and registered with Social Work England.

If you have not already achieved the relevant level of UKPSF recognition, we will need you to do so before the end of your probation period. On a personal level, going above and beyond to deliver exceptional teaching and support to our students will be your core motivation. You will use your experience of working in Social Work and Social Care to promote integrated professional practice across everything you do, imparting practical social work knowledge to students that they will take with them in their future careers.

The Faculty

School of Education, Midwifery & Social Work

Everyone here enjoys an environment built on innovation where we recruit original thinkers who are motivated to explore new avenues and transform learners’ lives.
