The Institute of Education at Tübingen University invites applications for the position of

Full professor (W 3) of Research on Teacher’s Professionalism and Teacher’s Education with a Special Focus on Subject Didactics

to commence on April 1, 2026.

The professorship’s research and teaching is part of the Institute of Education and cooperates closely with the Tübingen School of Education and the university’s subject didactics departments. The preferred candidate is an outstanding researcher with both national and international visibility. The position is involved in the education science studies program in all teacher training programs as well as in the Master’s program “School Research and School Development”. The teaching commitment is 9 SWS.

Required qualifications include a PhD or equivalent degree as well as postdoctoral qualifications and teaching experience equivalent to the requirements of a full professorship.

In order to be appointed to a professorship with responsibilities in teacher training, applicants should as a rule ideally have three years of work experience in schools.

Successful candidates should make fundamental contributions to the theoretical and empirical research on Teacher’s professionalism and Teacher’s education and, to this end, bring together approaches from professional theory and subject didactics. The professorship should be compatible with quantitative and qualitative research and be internationally visible. Possible focal points of a candidate’s research could include, for example, professional theory; characteristics of the teaching profession; professional development of teachers; alternative routes into the teaching profession; school leadership and school management.
