Salary: £35,116 to £45,413 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 27th February 2025

The Department of Computer Science and Technology is an academic department that encompasses computer science along with many aspects of engineering, technology and mathematics. The Department has around 340 people engaged in research: academic staff, research associates, and PhD students.

We have an exciting opportunity to join this busy & vibrant Department in a key role in overseeing and managing the smooth delivery of the core facilities services. The role holder will support the efficient operation of teaching and research activity.

You will take an active role in the project management of building and refurbishment projects as well as planned maintenance activities, overseeing the logistics of running these projects to agreed timescales and undertaking site liaison with external contactors when necessary. Key to this will be instigating & producing necessary documentation on behalf of the Head of Department, determining technical specifications of required work, cost control (by competitive tender in certain cases), progress and final operational testing and certification of all contractors' works. You will also act as the Departmental Safety Officer.

The post holder will have a sound knowledge of building, building services, health and safety legislation and practice and will be expected to have an understanding of the workings of all critical non-specialist mechanical and electrical systems within the department. You will be responsible for informing the Buildings and Environment Committee by preparing reports and documentation for Committee meetings, overseeing the minutes and ensuring actions are untaken by relevant staff. The post holder will supervise the Building Services Coordinator, who takes day to day responsibility for the general facilities of the building.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual for this role who has the ability to build professional relationships with colleagues across the University as well as external contractors. Applicants should have a degree/level 6 vocational qualification (or equivalent level of practical experience) with previous building management, health and safety & fire safety experience. The successful candidate will have experience of managing staff and complex projects, will have the ability to produce accurate and professional reports and will view this as an excellent opportunity to apply your good diagnostics & problem solving skills.
