A position exists, for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on the project of scalable tactile sensing based on Electrical Impedance Tomography for robot dexterity.

The post holder will be located in Central Cambridge Cambridgeshire, UK.

The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are a first degree in a relevant discipline and a PhD degree (or about to be awarded a PhD degree) in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, material science, or a related area; Expertise is sought in one or more of the following areas: biologically inspired robotics, soft robotics, modelling and development of sensing systems, soft matter modelling and analysis.  Experience of rapid prototyping is also required.

The post holder is expected to conduct investigations and development of soft robot platforms as well as dissemination of achievements through various communication channels. There will be collaboration with project partners and students which require smooth communication and teamwork.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.

Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £32,296 - £34,866 Research Associate: £36,924 - £45,163

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 18 months in the first instance.
