Background

The Broadcast and Media Systems Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing a cutting-edge media production facility and leading a team dedicated to enhancing student learning. This role requires exceptional people management skills, technical expertise, and a collaborative approach to work effectively with academic colleagues and IT. The position reports to IT and supports the department of Journalism and the department of Media, Culture and Creative Industries.

Responsibilities

• Team Leadership: Lead and manage a growing team that instructs students on various media production tasks, providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to staff.
• Facility Management: Oversee the operation and maintenance of media production facilities, including a TV studio, three radio studios, podcast booths, green screen rooms, video edit labs, and management of the AV loan service.

Person Specification

• Educational Background: Educated to a degree/postgraduate qualification level or equivalent experience. Management qualifications are desirable.
• Studio Expertise: Proven ability to work confidently in a studio environment and support the production process with both technical and operational expertise.
• Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in operating studio equipment, including cameras, microphones, cables, sound desks, lighting rigs, and autocues.
• Workflow Understanding: Strong understanding of workflow and communication dynamics in TV and radio studios.
